If you’ve ever tried to travel in or out of London, or even just around the city, around Christmas time or on New Year’s Eve, you know it can be a bit chaotic. Not just because of the sheer number of people that suddenly flood the city for the season, but also because of changes to the usual public transport services. So, ahead of the big day arriving in London, here’s everything you need to know about travelling in London at Christmas time and over New Year’s.
Ultimately, according to TfL, “[over] the Christmas and New Year period, between Saturday 20 December 2025 and Monday 5 January 2026, the vast majority of our services will be running”. But there will, of course, be some disruptions. The main disruption is on Christmas Day itself.
According to TfL:
“The only transport running on Christmas Day will be taxi and private hire services, Santander Cycles, electric scooter rental trials (in some boroughs), coaches, Dial-a-Ride (for registered members only) and some bus routes run by other operators.”
