We’ve officially made it through to the first of two May bank holidays, folks. The sun is shining and the laptops are mere moments away from being slammed shut for three entire days. But before you dive headfirst into the your weekend plans, allow us to give you a quick rundown on all of the closures that’ll be taking place across London’s transport network over the coming days – so that you can plan accordingly and not let a little bit of transport trouble get in the way of your fun-filled festivities.
DLR closures
Between Saturday, May 2 and Monday, May 4, the DLR will be affected by closures. There will be no service between Shadwell and Bank, Poplar and Beckton, or Stratford and Woolwich Arsenal across the weekend. This is because a fleet of 54 shiny new DLR trains are soon set to hit the tracks by the end of 2026, complete with walk-through carriages, air-con, and live travel updates. And this weekend, TfL will giving some of the new vehicles a test-drive.
Metropolitan Line closures
London’s oldest Tube line will also be facing some disruption over the bank holiday weekend. From May 2 to May 4, there will be no service on the Metropolitan line between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham, Chesham, or Watford.

London Overground closures
Okay, you’ll need to pay close attention here, because there are a number of closures affecting the London Overground network this weekend.
- There will be no Lioness line services running between Euston and Kilburn High Road between Saturday, May 2 and Monday, May 4.
- On Sunday, May 3, there will be no Mildmay line services running between Gospel Oak and Stratford until 11.30am, and no Mildmay line services running between Camden Road and Stratford after 10.15pm.
- On Sunday, May 3, there will be no service on the entire Windrush line after 7.15pm. And before 8am on the same day, there will be no Windrush line services running between Sydenham and West Croydon.
- On Sunday, May 3, there will be reduced service running across the Suffragette line.
Elizabeth Line closures
The Lizzie line will also be slightly disrupted over the bank holiday weekend. On Sunday, May 3, there will be no trains running between Paddington and Ealing Broadway until 7.40am and no services between Stratford and Shenfield until 10.30am. On Monday, May 4, a reduced service will run between Paddington and Heathrow Airport and Maidenhead after 10pm. And no trains will call at Acton Main Line, West Ealing or Hanwell after 11pm.
And I think that just about covers it all. As always, keep an eye on the Transport for London website for live status updates and to check your journeys in advance. Happy bank holiday weekend, lovely Londoners!
