Pay day lies tantalisingly out of reach, but you’re in need of a great cheap dinner out in London.
Whether you’re looking for a sit-down meal, a stuff-your-face-till-you’re-gonna-pop option or a little street food to sneak home, the capital is brimming with cheap eat options. Here’s a roundup of some of London’s best foodie offerings … and they all come in for under a tenner.
1. Misato, China Town
An unassuming Japanese restaurant tucked away in China Town that serves big flavours for small prices. Go with a tenner and you’re guaranteed to come out with change. We recommend the Chicken Katsu Curry or Chicken Katsu Teriyaki Rice which both come in at an astonishing £6. Wear comfortable trousers because the portions are bigger than your face and oh so divine. (See more of our favourite Japanese restaurants in London.)
11 Wardour St, Soho, London W1D 6PG
2. Indian Veg, Angel
Although it’s gone up in price, this BYO all-you-can-eat veggie buffet still comes in at a purse-friendly £7.95. Stuff your face with freshly made curries, pakoras, bhajis and fresh salads. Everything is completely vegetarian but when the curries are this good, who’s really going to miss the meat?
92-93 Chapel Market, London N1 9EX
3. Pizza Union – Aldgate East, Spitalfields, King’s Cross
We’ve raved about it and will continue to rave about it as long as the pizzas are this good. Great quality, handmade pizzas that are made before your very eyes. Depending on the flavour, you can easily get 2 pizzas for under a tenner. The perfect place to go for a cheap date, get together with friends or even as a takeaway option for your chilled night in.

4. True Flavours, Brixton
These guys do authentic Caribbean flavours so damn well and the price tag is even more tempting. Small boxes start from as little as a fiver and even a large box only racks up to £8. Get the pepper steak, veg & rice and peas for £5 then throw in a cheeky fried dumpling for 70p. You can’t go wrong …
101 Acre Lane, Brixton, London SW2 5TU
5. Roti King, Euston
Who doesn’t love a freshly made hot roti? And with an accompanying dhall or meat curry, you can’t beat all that saucy action. For meat lovers and veggies alike, the dhall version comes in at a crazy £4 whilst the options of curry chicken, lamb or fish will only set you back £5.50. Go along with someone and feast like a king and still come out with change from a 20.
40 Doric Way, Kings Cross, London NW1 1LH
6. Herman ze German – Charing Cross, Soho, Fitzrovia
If you’re looking for an authentic German sausage, we’ve found the place. Get your mind out the gutter and get your belly down to Herman ze German for some seriously good Wurst. We recommend the regular portion of warming curry wurst with fries that comes in at £8.50 or opt for another of their wurst deals and get your wurst in a roll, some pommes frites and a drink for £8.25.

7. Goddards at Greenwich, Greenwich
Head on down to Greenwich for some homemade London goodness. Their traditional pie is made with minced beef but Goddard’s also offer chicken, veggie and steak pies for a little more. Go with a tenner and you could actually afford 3 pies, mash and liquor for only £8 … or be reasonable (and boring) and get 1 pie, mash and liquor for a very healthy £4. Now that’s proper.
8. Pan N Ice – Westfield Stratford City & Selfridges
It’s the ice cream craze that has started off in Thailand and has taken London by storm. Get our your fiver, choose from flavours like strawberry cheesecake, eton mess and Oreo (to name a few) and watch your ice cream made before your very eyes. Everything’s slapped onto a cold slab and then formed into ice cream roll perfection.
The Street, Westfield Stratford City, London E15 1AZ
9. Cafe Loren, Camden
Shakshuka is the yummy, warming concoction of rich tomato sauce that gently poaches eggs and makes the best damn brunch combo one could ask for. Located right inside Camden Stables Market and everything under £10, this really is a hidden gem. Feast on olives, flatbreads and hummus to start but be sure to leave room for some of the best Shakshuka options in the capital.
5-6 The Stables Market, Chalk Farm Rd, London NW1 8AH
10. Bibigo, Soho
Prepare yourself guys because this may be the cheapest set menu you’ve ever seen. This healthy Korean restaurant has a lunchtime 3 course set menu coming in at a cheer-inducing £9, whilst the 3 course dinner menu only sets you back £13. We recommend the grilled garlic chicken and of course, the calamari because these guys seriously know what they’re doing.
58-59 Great Marlborough Street, Soho, London W1F 7JY
11. Brasserie Zedél, Soho
Prepare to be transported into a grand French hall … in the heart of London. Go for that Insta-worthy shot but nab yourself a cheeky three course meal for only £9.75. It does include sad items like a chopped carrot salad but when they’re serving you up steak with pepper sauce and frites, can we really complain?
20 Sherwood Street, Soho, London W1F 7ED
12. Fish House, East Village
So, since when did fish and chips get so damn expensive? All we want is a nice battered fish, good chips and we’re happy. Well Fish House in trendy East Village may have just won us over. Their tempting lunchtime deal includes obligatory fish, chips and even a cup of tea all for a fiver. Happy days.
