New year, new experiences. When I heard that Together at Piccadilly Lights had recently opened, offering to put some lucky visitors on the big screen, I knew this was a bucket-list-worthy exhibition. Promising digital art in real-time, several light and motion-based installations, as well as support for the mental health charity Take A Moment – Together, is full of surprises.
Needless to say, I decided to pay a visit myself. Who knows, I could become the next artwork on the screen… So, come along as I guide you through this special art gallery.
What to expect at the entrance?
Located beneath the iconic Piccadilly screens next to Boots, Together is hard to miss. Before you even enter the venue, you can already tell it’s going to be a fascinating experience. As we walked in, we were surrounded by lots of moving artwork. In this unique and relaxing venue, you can find various interactive pieces, photography, and space for discussion. There were also plenty of stylish gifts available – basically, the perfect date spot or a hangout with your family and friends.

For a coffee lover like myself, the first instinct was to grab a latte before I could focus on the actual exhibition. Thankfully, the coffee stand with a lovely barista was already there, preparing my little focus drink. Then it was time to really check out the Together experience and see what the fuss is all about.
How was the art?
The art installations can be noticed from the very beginning. The first art piece that caught my eye was this big, blurred mirror-like wall that reacts to every movement. Naturally, I had to start jumping and running around to see how it actually works (yes, acting silly is allowed). I could see myself move, and it felt like I was stuck inside the glass.
From drawings of light creating a unique art through your movement, to temporary graffiti, there was definitely enough fun art to enjoy. And since I don’t want to spoil your curiosity, I’m not going to describe each of the art pieces, so you can see them yourself. But trust me, all of them gave me the chance to feel like I was a part of something bigger.

Becoming the art piece yourself
Let me tell you about the part you’ve probably been wondering the most: how does one get to be on the Piccadilly Lights? Well, all the way upstairs, we got to the most exciting step – becoming a piece of art ourselves.
As I entered the photo studio-like room, I got my picture taken. Next, I stood in front of a big white screen with a paint roller, where the Pixelography magic happens. Through simple physical gestures and movements, I got to transform my own image into art. Then, it got printed on museum-quality fine art paper to take home. The perfect personal addition to my bedroom!
But wait, there’s even more. Every Friday, selected artworks are displayed on the iconic Piccadilly Lights, turning creators into part of London’s most famous screen. You don’t just visit the exhibition, you become a part of it.
This incredible art experience is only going to remain open for the next month, so I’m glad I got to visit it while it’s still here. With various interactive art and even a take-home memory of my own, I was really pleased with the experience. I recommend coming to Together at Piccadilly Lights and getting the chance to become the next art exhibit in front of the whole city.
