Winter trails always bring joy and splendour at the end of each year as London reaches peak festivity, but have you ever seen one quite so small and quite so made up entirely of matchboxes?
Over in Greenwich, anyone is invited to embark on The Little Match Trail, which popped up earlier this month and runs until New Year’s Day. As you might have guessed, it’s made up of tiny matchbox pieces of art, which sit in windows and do the festive deed of looking completely adorable.
The Little Match Trail
Scattered around Greenwich, the Little Match Trail was set up by artist and designer Amy Strike, who has put together the map of artworks created by members of the South East London ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) support group, as well as people living with ME and fatigue conditions. Anyone who enjoys the trail will also be offered the chance to make a small donation to the group.
As you can see, each work is tiny and expertly crafted, and you’ll find this Yellow Brick Road piece among many others, which you can view on a map created by Sam Pope right here. Once you’ve completed the trail, you can also fill in the website’s puzzle which asks you a question about each piece and earn yourself a discount at The Admiral Harding pub for a celebratory drink. Just what we all need at Christmas.
Check out the Little Match Trail across Greenwich, which you can walk through at any time until January 1, 2025. You can view the map here and donate to the trail’s JustGiving page, which is raising funds for the ME association.
