Staying/stuck in the big city for the big day? Here are the best things to do in London on Christmas Day!
Clearly, your love for this city knows no bounds if you’re sticking around for Christmas Day – or else Tier 4 snuck up on you and trapped you here. Either way, you’re probably in need of a little festive inspiration for December 25, so we’ve put together a little guide to the best things to do in London on Christmas Day, to ensure maximum festive cheer!
1. Work off that Christmas dinner
There are no tubes, buses, Overgrounds, DLRs, or trams on the 25th. Which would be a problem, but with the roads a little quieter and a Christmas dinner to work off, it’s the perfect time to hop a Santander Cycle and take tour of the capital. You can find our favourite cycling routes here!
2. Hop in the water for a dip
Don’t worry about freezing your unmentionables off, for Hampton Pool is heated to a toasty 28 degrees. It’s also open 365 days a year, which means you can get in a few lengths before tucking into a well-earned mince pie! Find out more here.
3. Catch the Christmas lights without the crowds
All the beauty of London’s luscious Christmas light displays without the hustle and bustle of tourists, last-minute shoppers, and the evermore frustrated Londoners trying to dodge them all. Sounds like heaven to me!
4. Check out a traditional church service
Head to one of London’s beautiful churches for a traditional service on Christmas Day. St Paul’s Cathedral, for example, is still permitted to host services in Tier 4, although you’ll need to pre-book a ticket for an unforgettable way to spend one’s Yuletide.
5. Stretch your legs on a bracing winter walk
Quite frankly, there’s an embarrassment of London parks waiting to be explored, and misty Christmas mornings are about as perfect a day as you’ll get to do so. Try Richmond Park for a ravishing ramble, or the ever-popular Hampstead Heath if you’re based in north London. Alternatively, you can get a jump on our favourite Boxing Day walks!
