Life in the capital can sometimes feel like a never-ending conveyor belt of jam-packed tubes, overpriced pints, and an excessive amount of phone notifications. We city folk are pretty-much glued to our phones, whether it be for work, play, or even just to pay an eye-watering amount for – well – anything. It’s no wonder that our attention spans have gotten about as thin as my patience for people standing on the wrong side of the escalator.
Now, it will probably come as no surprise to you that excessive screen time isn’t particularly good for us – but it’s still just so difficult to put those darn phones down, right? Well, luckily for us tech-dependent Londoners, there’s a charming Belgravia boozer that will help you out. Because at the Nags Head, mobile phones aren’t just frowned upon; they’re completely banned. So much so, you can’t even whip your phone out to pay for your drink.
The Nags Head
Tucked away down and quaint and quiet mews in Knightsbridge; the Nags Head is a super cosy little pub. Drenched in history and quirky charm; with walls adorned with old photos, old-school memorabilia and vintage penny-slot machines. The eccentric watering hole was built back in the 1800s and is currently run by former guardsman and actor, Kevin Moran (who proudly displays his name out front).
Moran runs a pretty tight ship with some ever-so strict rules. Sitting at a table too large for your party is a no-go. As is hanging your coat on the back of your chair rather than the coat hooks provided. And as for mobile phones? We’d recommend keeping them firmly in your pockets. Cash or a physical card will be needed to make payment and don’t even think about trying to snap a photo of your perfectly poured pint, or you’ll be out on your ear. Believe me: it took some serious digging to find photo evidence that this historic hotspot did actually exist.
A visit to the Nags Head is like a journey back in time. But we must admit, there’s something quite refreshing about switching off your phone and having an actual conversation. Who’d have thought it?!
đź“Ť You’ll find the Nags Head at 53 Kinnerton Street, SW1X 8ED.
