We keep our ear to the ground for openings across the city, but when life gives you a margarita bar right on the doorstep of the Secret London offices – well, we tend to pay extra attention to that! Opening on May 13, new rooftop bar The Lucky Club Camden will take over the space once home to PROUD and Fest Camden, with a £2 million renovation helping to turn the venue into summer 2022’s rooftop hangout du jour. Here’s what you can expect from The Lucky Club Camden!
If that name sounds familiar to you, it’s because The Lucky Club have been serving up bottomless bao brunches and neon-soaked vibes at their original site in Mayfair for a little while now. The Camden hangout becomes their second London venue (and flagship site) this May, taking over a 5600 square foot roof terrace that adjoins Camden’s Grade II-listed former horse hospital. They’ve put that £2 million investment to good use, with a retractable roof and high-spec heaters ensuring that any visit here will be insulated from the tempestuous British weather…
With the promise of alfresco drinking all year round secured, guests are invited to relax in a delightfully designed space, with metal features and natural planting united in harmony. Festoon lights will brighten the evenings, and a state of the art sound system will blast out a summer playlist curated by Open Ear, who’ve also designed playlists for Selfridges, Coal Drops Yard, and Wahaca.
Whereas The Lucky Club Mayfair focuses on Asian cuisine, the Camden site heads west to Mexico. On the menu, you’ll find an array of mouthwatering tacos and tostadas, including a Pulled Lamb Birria Taco and an intriguing Cheeseburger Taco topped with emmental cheese and diced gherkin. The Oyster Mushroom Taco is lined up as a banging vegan option, whilst the Coconut Ceviche Tostada has already piqued my attention.
With the emphasis on Mexican cuisine, it’s no surprise that the cocktail menu leans heavily into margaritas, with no fewer than seven different variations available. Spice lovers might opt for the Pica Pica, flavoured with mezcal, mango, lime, agave, and chilli, but I’ll be making a beeline for the mandarin-laced Frozen Naranjarita, which is sure to pair perfectly with a sun-drenched summer evening.
Best of all, if you pop along between 5-6pm from Monday to Thursday, you can experience the ‘Lucky Hour’; roll a dice before ordering your round, and if you hit the lucky number seven, your cocktail will be on the house! So, I guess the only question left is: are you feeling lucky?
