FINALLY!
As regular readers of Secret London/anyone who talks to me will know, I’m a little bit extremely obsessed with The Knight Before Christmas – better known as the “Vanessa Hudgens falling in love with a time-travelling medieval knight” vehicle we’ve all been waiting for. Netflix‘s latest outrageously cheesy festive flick has been on my radar for months now, and finally we have a trailer to enjoy. Behold this glorious visual feast!
There is so much to unpack here, but let’s start with the most important bit: our heroine. If you had “Netflix’s Queen of Christmas” in the sweepstakes for what Vanessa Hudgens would do after High School Musical, you’ll be cleaning up right now. Last year, it was winningly light The Princess Switch, in which she played both leads – and if you think that’s impressive, she’ll actually play three roles(!) in next year’s sequel. For The Knight Before Christmas, she plays a high school science teacher who’s all but given up on love. I think you can guess where this is going…
The titular character, meanwhile, is Sir Cole of Norwich, played by Poldark’s Josh Whitehouse. He’s the classic fish out of water in this scenario, and whilst I’m fully on board with the time travel bit, I’m still not sure how he also managed to get from Norwich to Ohio in the process. Doesn’t matter, for it promises noble deeds and low-stakes drama, and I am Here 👏 For 👏 It 👏.
Romantic snow covered scenes! Fabulously contrived misunderstandings! Excellent winter wardrobes! Truly, this film has it all, and if you’re not absolutely foaming at the mouth to see it then you’re lying to yourself. It arrives on Netflix on November 21st, so grab yourself a tacky Christmas jumper and a hot chocolate, and let the magic unfold…
