Tucked away down a quaint and quiet Marylebone side-street is a gorgeously-restored Georgian townhouse. Well, actually – four gorgeously-restored Georgian townhouses, combined together to make up the subtly sophisticated, elegantly eclectic, and oh-so charming Holmes Hotel.
Seamlessly blending style and storytelling; the Holmes Hotel is just a stone’s throw from Baker Street station – and is scattered with playful nods to the local area’s most famous fictional resident, Sherlock Holmes.
The rooms at the Holmes Hotel
The hotel boasts 118 rooms and suites in total, each of which are cosy and classy in equal measure. Providing all of the home-from-home comforts you’d want or need in an overnight stay; the rooms at the Holmes Hotel are understatedly luxurious. The thoughtful touches, sumptuous décor, and absolutely ginormous bed remind you that you’re somewhere special. But not in a pretentious way; in a ‘you’re not going to want to check out in the morning because you’re so darn comfortable here’ way. You know?
The hotel offers both historic charm and contemporary comforts. And there are clever and intriguing Holmes-references dotted about the place. You’d enjoy staying at the Holmes Hotel regardless of you prior Sherlock knowledge. But you’d be particularly pleased with your choice of accommodation if you you happen to be a Holmes enthusiast.
The food at the Holmes Hotel
The boutique Baker Street spot is also home to the two-rosette restaurant, Kitchen at Holmes. And whilst breakfast was undeniably great (with plenty of options and speedy service); the highlight of my entire stay was dinner. Kitchen at Holmes boasts an impressive open kitchen – and there’s just something about watching your food being prepared right in front of you that adds so much to the whole experience. The restaurant serves up seasonal menus, packed full of Mediterranean-inspired dishes – each of which are fresh, flavoursome, and flippin’ delicious. And the drinks menu is also full of subtle Holmesian hints.
On top of the rooms and restaurant; the Holmes Hotel boasts ten event spaces, a lovely terrace garden, and a state-of-the-art fitness suite. The hotel is smart, sleek, and oh-so sophisticated; everything you’d expect from somewhere associated with Sherlock Holmes, right? The only mystery here, however, is why I hadn’t spent a night there sooner.
You’ll find the Holmes Hotel London at 83 Chiltern Street, Marylebone, W1U 6NF. Rooms start from around £300 per night. Find out more and plan your visit here.
