Sitting in a gingerbread house in a pub enjoying amazing food and cocktails? Christmas day just came early!
We’ve already heard about some amazing gingerbread creations in London this festive season – from an entire gingerbread city to this giant gingerbread model of Covent Garden Market.
But we have to say, this east London pub might have beaten them all and whisked us away with its brand new Christmas creation.
This November, The Gun in Spitalfields will transform into a winter wonderland, complete with its very own life-size gingerbread chalet! Enter through The Gun’s bar, transformed into a winter forest with snow-dusted trees and rich foliage, which paves the way to the enchanting gingerbread dining room.
Taking inspiration from the Black Forest and gingerbread houses of the 16th Century, this magical chalet will be covered in twinkling fairy lights, glowing lanterns and warm throws, turning it into the cosiest Christmas crib.
The gingerbread chalet will also be brought to life by edible bricks, and a giant edible advent calendar!
Inside the chalet, guests can feast their eyes on the pub’s warming winter food and drinks menu. Try a tipple from their new selection of smoking cocktails; the ‘Spiced Route Revolver’ combines Havana Especial, rum, spiced syrup, star anise and cinnamon, while ‘Two Smoking Barrels’ mixes honey-infused orange peel and cinnamon with vodka, whiskey, vermouth – smoked with pine to create the warmest winter taste. Mulled wine will also be available throughout the season for a taste of Christmas come early.
To compliment this delicious array of drinks, a menu of comforting classics will include everything from hearty portions of Braised beef short rib with creamy mashed potato, braised red cabbage, chestnut crumb and jus, to melting deep-fried brie with cranberry dip and watercress garnish.
And for those who like to keep it traditional, the pub will be relaunching its terrific Sunday roasts. Their signature sharing feast includes a full spread of slow-roasted beef rump and herb-roasted chicken, served with all the trimmings; including Yorkshire puddings, proper gravy, and even an optional side of pigs in blankets!
Their irresistible desserts will also keep with the winter woodland theme. Take the black forest gateau, for example, perfectly finished with brandy cream and cherry sorbet.
If you’re looking to re-discover your inner child this Christmas, or simply want a cosy place to enjoy some warming winter grub, get yourself down to The Gun for all the festive feels.
