The Devonshire pub in Soho is known for many things: its storied history, its reputation for serving up the best pint of Guinness, and now for being world-class superstar Ed Sheeran’s favourite pub.
Sitting a stone’s throw from Piccadilly Circus, The Devonshire has been welcoming punters on and off since 1793, showcasing just how Perfect it is not just for Ed, but thousands of people over the last 230+ years.
A Soho institution
Famed venue The Devonshire is a two-story establishment, boasting an in-house butcher and bakery, as well as the pub area, and a restaurant. The interiors are ‘rustic meets modern’, with elevated pub grub served upstairs. Expect the likes of pea and ham soup to Iberico pork chops, lamb hot pot to half lobster. Larger groups can opt for their specialist feasting menu, and of course, like any pub worth its salt, a Sunday roast is the main event on… well… a Sunday.
Open daily, it is a dog-friendly pub – and small, well-behaved dogs are even welcome in the restaurant. Kids are also allowed in the restaurant at any time, and in the pub area until 5pm, Monday-Friday.
So, why is The Devonshire Ed Sheeran’s favourite pub?
It’s not often we gain insight into celebs’ favourite spots, but some might say Ed was Thinking Out Loud when he was interviewed by creator Top Jaw for his ‘Best of London’ series. Ed credited The Devonshire’s back room, saying “What I really like about it is that they have a back room that they do tradfolk jams in, and no one’s allowed to take pictures or video. So, you can just go in there and get as slaughtered as you want.”
