Pubbin’ and tubbin’ all in one spot at The Buxton.
Right, let’s get one thing out of the way quickly: how on Earth are The Buxton the first people in London to consider putting a hot tub in a pub? It seems so blindingly obvious, so handy a match, that I really can’t conceive why it hasn’t been done already. Still, come springtime it will be a reality, as the new pub/hotel/rooftop hangout becomes a reality, brought to life by the same folks who run charming Aldgate boozer The Culpeper. Concrete details are still a little thin on the ground – as, frustratingly, are pictures – but there are a few snippets floating around that sound very promising. Mooted as a rather upmarket spot, the space will incorporate artwork and furnishings from East London creators, and make liberal use of wood and stone for a homely feel. The pub and restaurant will be located on the ground floor, with fifteen Quite Nice hotel rooms filling the seven floors above.
On the rooftop, you’ll find an honesty bar and a Swedish-style hot tub, bubbling away with views of the city in the background. Now, if you’ve been waiting for the “but” – why? You should lighten up a little! But having said that, I must admit there is one catch to The Buxton’s grand plan. Unfortunately, the honesty bar and hot tub aren’t open to pubgoers, as the rooftop privileges are restricted to hotel guests only. A shame, sure – but if you can stump up the cash for a one-night stay, you can still turn that hot tub/pub dream into a reality!
The Buxton will open at 42 Osborn Street, E1 6TD, sometime in Spring 2019.
