Prepare to be transported to the bustling streets of Bangkok as the ultimate Thai festival, Thailand Showcase, returns to King’s Cross this weekend.
For one weekend only (June 28 – June 30), Canopy Market in Coal Drops Yard will be taken over by the very best of Thai food, drink, art and culture, emulating the iconic night markets of Thailand. That’s three whole days for Londoners to kid themselves that they’ve jetted off to a tropical paradise, when they actually haven’t even left Zone 1.
This free-to-enter event has been organised by the Royal Thai Embassy, and will be packed full of everything from street food and market stalls to dance performances and raffles. There’s a whole lot to get through in just one weekend, so you’ll need to use your Thai-m wisely.
This year’s theme is ‘Unleashing Thai Creativity’, and is set to be the biggest and best Thailand Showcase yet. Visitors will have the chance to explore a culinary paradise and sink their teeth into some of Thailand’s tastiest treats, courtesy of top chefs. High-quality, authentic (and down-right delicious) Thai food will be served up by the likes of Farang Londo, Slurp Noodles, Siam Niyom, and Chicken and Egg. And all that can be washed down with Chang Beer’s brand new Chang Espresso Lager (which is being debuted outside of Asia for the very first-time, FYI).
Feast your eyes on some incredible performances, and watch as Thailand’s rich culture comes to life through captivating dances and vibrant shows. There will also be plenty of stalls and exhibits to browse where visitors can get their hands on everything from jewellery, homeware, and even Kera Protein (a viral product that extracts protein from chicken feathers and turns it into an edible meat-like product).
The cherry on top of this delicious cake, is that anyone attending the event will have the chance to win various raffle prizes, including exclusive merch, luxury getaways and – wait for it – a return flight to Thailand. Not too shabby, hey?
Clear your diaries, folks, and get yourself down to Canopy Market this weekend. Just Thai to stop yourself from booking a one-way flight to Thailand immediately after you’ve experienced the magic of the festival.
Thailand Showcase will be open on June 28 (1-8pm), and June 29-30 (11am-6pm) .Find out more and plan your visit here.
