Okay, let me set the scene for you: it’s a rainy Thursday evening in Tooting Broadway; you’ve just encountered your fourth armpit of the week on your commute home; you’ve been funneled out of the station amongst the mob of exhausted Londoners, all beelining home to their Hello Fresh boxes and the latest episode of The Apprentice.
When you look up from your phone for the first time in approximately an hour, you are met with the hustle and bustle of Broadway Market, and the distinctive but oh-so-satisfying rattle of a cocktail shaker, and you just know that somebody nearby is making margaritas.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there aren’t many things I know a lot about, but to put things into perspective; if I were to write a memoir, a top contender for the title would be ‘Everything I know about margs’ (and not just because I come from Margate).
The magnetic pull I feel when I’m in the vicinity of tequila is like nothing I’ve ever known, so when I saw a sign that read ‘Tacos + Tequila‘ glistening in the distance; I knew that my waiting-to-be-assembled risotto would just have to wait until tomorrow.
Every Thursday, between the hours of 6pm-9pm, Tacos + Tequila offer an hour of bottomless frozen margaritas, three tacos of your choice, and a shot of flavoured tequila, all for just £35. Yes, you read that correctly.
Situated amidst the vibrancy of Broadway Market, just moments from the station, this lively little section of the market offers a bespoke menu with an extensive range of mouth-watering margaritas, tantalising tequilas, and tasty tacos.
They utilise locally sourced produce alongside authentic Mexican ingredients, and add their own European culinary touch, to ensure that they cater to all taste buds; so there’s hopefully something for every member of the friendship group.
Our bottomless hour started with a bang as a huge jug of frozen margarita was placed on the table in front of us the moment we’d sat down. We were able to top up our own glasses as and when we wanted to, and were also told that we were welcome to have another jug once we’d finished. Bottomless drinks without the apologetic awkwardness of having to ask the waiter to refill your glass every few minutes? My idea of heaven.
There was a huge selection of tacos to choose from and each one that we tried was delicious and (extremely) generously filled, but with 20 different fillings available, I simply must go back and try some more. There’s just one thing that I need to know before I return: has anyone ever managed to look even remotely cute whilst eating a taco? Because I could definitely do with some tips.
A wonderful meal was washed down with a shot of their passionfruit-infused tequila, which was the perfect way to end our evening. It turns out that Thursdays really are the new Fridays, and I know where I’ll be spending my Thursday evenings for the foreseeable future.
Round up your friends, grab a sombrero, and join the fiesta!
