If you’re taking a brisk stroll in Covent Garden (as brisk as one can be when dodging through crowds, anyway), you’re bound to see groups gathered around street performers. There’s always something going on at the world-famous piazza, but it’s unlikely you’ll have seen a synchronised swimming show in that part of the city.
That’s exactly what you can expect if you rock up to Covent Garden next week, as a group are putting on a set of fabulous performances all day on April 17 to celebrate 100 days to go before the Paris Olympics.
Synchronised Swimming in Covent Garden
They said it couldn’t be done (they didn’t) but it’s going to be a reality very soon, and it’s all down to On Location, who are the official hospitality provider of the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. They’ve even said that Sir Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford MBE will be joining the occasion for a while (though don’t expect them to be jumping in the water!) If that won’t raise the excitement levels for the synchronised swimming events at the Olympics (or ‘artistic swimming’, as it’s officially referred to), what will?
The athletes will be performing between 9am and 6pm, and there will be a sychonised swim on Covent Garden every half an hour throughout April 17. Not a bad spectacle to check out after you’ve bagged yourself a bite from one of the food stands or spilled out of a coffee shop.
We’re sure the athletes will be hoping for a sunny day to accompany their synchronised performance, but either way, you should expect the whole thing to go swimmingly.
Synchronised Swims are taking place on April 17 at Covent Garden between 9am – 6pm. Find out more about On Location here. The Olympics opening ceremony takes place on July 26.
