Much like that brand new board game that you unwrapped on Christmas Day, supermarket opening hours over the holidays can be rather confusing. So, here’s our handy rundown of when each major UK supermarket will be opening and closing its doors on New Year’s Eve. You’re welcome, folks.
Tesco New Year’s Eve opening hours
It’s looking as though most Tesco Extra stores will be open from 6am to 7pm, whilst the smaller Tesco Express stores are set to be open from 7am to 10pm on New Year’s Eve.

Most major Sainsbury’s stores are set to be open from 7am to 7pm on New Year’s Eve. The smaller ‘local’ stores, however, are expected to stay open until 9pm.

ASDA’s New Year’s Eve opening times seem to vary quite a lot throughout London, but the majority of them are set to close at 8pm.

Lidl New Year’s Eve opening hours
Inside the M25, Lidl stores are set to be open from 8am to 7pm on New Year’s Eve. Stores outside the M25, however, are set to close at 6pm.

Shoppers can expect to find their local Aldi stores open between 8am and 6pm on New Year’s Eve.

M&S New Year’s Eve opening hours
The New Year’s Eve opening hours of M&S stores across London vary quite drastically, so I’d highly recommend checking your local stores specific times. The M&S on Shaftesbury Avenue, for example, is open 24 hours. Whilst the M&S on Tottenham Court Road is only open from 7.30am to 7pm.

The majority of Waitrose stores in London are set to be open from 8am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve. Some of their smaller ‘Little Waitrose’ stores are expected to open at 7am.
