If you haven’t already cottoned on to the fact that second-hand shopping is just as stylish and a whole lot more sustainable than buying brand-new, then please allow me to point you in the direction of a preloved paradise that’ll certainly help you grasp the concept. A trailblazing trio of second-hand stores are joining forces this weekend to give the the humble jumble sale a rather gargantuan glow-up.
Charity Super.Mkt, TRAID, and Beyond Retro will be descending upon Mercato Metropolitano in Elephant and Castle on October 25, and filling it to the brim with twinkling preloved treasures. Super Jumble is the name and putting a 21st-century spin on the classic jumble sale is the game. So, grab a ticket and a tote bag, folks, and get ready to rumble jumble.
How will the Super Jumble sale work?
With piles upon piles of preloved pieces to rummage through, Super Jumble is set to modernise and gamify the second-hand shopping experience. The prices will be low, the vibes will be high, and the atmosphere will resemble that of a festival, with the likes of vinyl-spinning DJs, street food stalls, klaxons, and a joyful chaos by the bucket-load.
The most exciting part of the event is that the prices of the items will drop drastically throughout the day. The event kicks off at 10am for the early birds, where all items will be priced at £7. The second wave of shopping will start at 12pm, when the prices will drop to £4. And then at 1.30pm, shoppers will be able to get their hands on some vintage gems for just £2.50 per item.
The almighty eco-friendly event comes as a direct response to the growing volume of unsold secondhand clothing. Super Jumble will enable Londoners to discover the joy of preloved fashion, giving them the chance to snap up some sensationally sustainable second-hand pieces quicker than they can say ‘fast-fashion’.
Super Jumble will take place at Mercato Metropolitano in Elephant and Castle this Saturday (October 25) from 10am-3pm. Find out more and snap up a ticket here.
