Now, I’m aware that it doesn’t feel like it right this moment – but the sunny season is continuing to slowly clamber its way onto the horizon. It’s almost time to start filling our diaries with all sorts of summery shenanigans. And (much like myself) an east London lido is almost ready to awaken from its off-season slumber.
Summer Splash is the name and providing a safe al-fresco water space for the local community is the game. This new addition to London’s line up of lidos comes courtesy of the Royal Docks, and – more specifically – their summer programme, At The Docks. The Summer Splash lido will serve up a summery sanctuary in the heart of the city, and unlike more of the capital’s other outdoor swimming pools, this one will be completely free to visit.

The dreamy dock-side lido will be diving into the capital city next month – but it won’t be around for long. The lido will only be open for a matter of weeks; swinging open its doors on July 25, and firmly closing them again on August 17. Set against a rather breathtaking backdrop; this unique al-fresco (and unheated) pool is perched next to City Hall, providing some sweeping cityscape views as you splash about.
Alongside the pool, there will be sandpits to play in, deckchairs to lounge in, daily family-friendly activities, swim-safe water sessions, and a vibrant schedule of events. The pool is also manned by lifeguards and complete with a shallow end, making it safe for the whole family. The wider At The Docks schedule will also offer visitors to the chance to try their hand at wakeboarding, paddleboarding, and open-water swimming. Sounds like a pretty perfect place to spend a summery day in the city, hey?
