Last week, we were predicting up to 7 days of snow to come this week, but the forecast has decidedly taken a turn for the worse. As temperatures drop once again, there is no snow in sight for the capital. Instead, the recently-named Storm Chandra is set to bring extreme weather conditions and rain to the country. Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to hit London, and weather warnings predict there could be the potential for flooding.
Now, look, as Londoners we’re no strangers to rain. But there’s rain, and then there’s RAIN. And the latter is very much what we can expect as Storm Chandra touches down in the UK. Specifically, here in London, a yellow weather warning is in place from midnight tonight until midday tomorrow. The weather warning encompasses south London as well as surrounding southerly areas. The Met Office is forecasting “Heavy rain likely to lead to some transport disruption and possible flooding in places.”
Storm Chandra
Yellow and amber weather warnings are in place across much of the country, particularly in the western areas. Parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and England are expected to receive considerable rain and wind from tonight and into tomorrow.
There is a more concentrated amber weather warning in place from 5pm today until 9am tomorrow for the following areas:
- Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole
- Cornwall
- Devon
- Dorset
- Plymouth
- Somerset
- Torbay
The increased level is due to the storm posing a “medium likelihood and a medium impact”. The Met Office warns of “heavy rain, flooding and disruption later Monday and overnight into Tuesday morning.” People should be prepared for the possibility of landslides, power cuts, flooded roads, fast-flowing floodwater, and more.

The weather warnings persist tomorrow, with the south-west and Wales advised to be prepared for “very strong south to southwesterly winds during Tuesday”. There is also an amber warning in place for Belfast and the surrounding areas for “very strong winds” throughout the day tomorrow.
Across the north and in Scotland, there are also warnings for rain and snow throughout tomorrow.
So before you leave the house, be sure to take a look at the updated forecast and warnings, and be prepared for disruptions. Ultimately, though, it’s a great excuse to simply stay home and stay safe.
