St Martin-in-the-Fields will be injecting some much-needed light into our capital city in the form of a breathtaking sound and light experience. Following the huge success of their previous light show, Space; this brand-new exhibition will be titled Life, and will take visitors on a spectacular journey through our natural world.
The Trafalgar Square church will be illuminated (inside and out) for just five days only, providing Londoners with a celebration of light like no other.
Designed to be an enchanting journey through earth, sea and sky; Life will take visitors from sunrise to sunset as they walk through the mesmerising display.
The experience will begin outside the building, where dazzling imagery will be projected onto the centuries-old architecture of St Martin-in-the-Fields. This external projection will instantly immerse viewers in the beauty of the natural world and will shine a light (quite literally) on our responsibility to protect it.
The dazzling vibrant light show will continue inside, as guests journey through the atmospheric underground crypt. The experience will culminate in a sensational seated sequence that will take over the entire interior of the church.
The experience will last approximately 40 minutes in total, but guests are welcome to stay as long as they wish after entering to ensure they’ve fully soaked up every last moment of the impressive display.
Life has been designed and produced by Peter Walker and Luxmuralis. They aim to make art more accessible to everybody by providing the public with visual artwork in rather unexpected places.
Peter Walker, says: “After a remarkable first installation working with St Martin’s last year, we are delighted to be back in 2024 with Life. This is such an iconic building, but it is much more than that. It has been the home of remarkable music, art, and culture for hundreds of years. At Luxmuralis we create the stained-glass windows of our time, bringing to life the stories and concepts of our time in a way that stained glass did generations before. It is wonderful to play a part in the contemporary life of St Martin’s bringing this new artform and adding it to these centuries of artistic and cultural history.”
This immersive exhibition will run at St Martin-in-the-Fields from Tuesday, January 30 – Saturday, February 3. Timed ticket slots are available between 5.30-9.45pm daily with tickets starting from £8pp. Find out more and plan your visit here.
