As the city transforms in the lead-up to Christmas with all manner of festive restaurant makeovers, Christmas light installations, and tree lightings, this stunning church in Central London has joined in the festive fun with the return of its Winter Bar.
Located just off of Trafalgar Square, St-Martin-in-the-Fields church is curing winter blues with a hefty dose of Christmas cheer and family-friendly fun.
St Martins’ courtyard has been glammed up by its Winter Bar where you can sip warming winter tipples under a canopy of glittering lights and take shelter during a frosty winter evening at this festive haven. The bar will be serving bespoke Christmas cocktails such as Blood Orange Negronis, Spiced Margarita, Christmas Spritzs, and boozy hot chocolates alongside the quintessential winter warmer that is mulled wine with pizza pies on hand if you’re feeling peckish.
For anyone not in the know, St-Martin-in-the-Fields is also home to one of London’s quirkiest (and perhaps spookiest?) cafés that is Café in the Crypt. Yes, it really is in a crypt. The café has been included in the church’s Christmas makeover with a new Christmas-inspired menu for guests to tuck into as they get festive in the crypt, which we promise doesn’t look as creepy as you would think.
For the little ones, St Martins has launched their new gingerbread decorating workshops where they’ll be able to decorate gingerbread biscuits, baked by hand by St Martin’s Head Chef and shaped into an array of festive shapes including stars, Christmas trees and gingerbread people.
Santa’s Elves will tell tales full of festive cheer about Santa’s love of gingerbread and lead a sing-along finale of Christmas songs with the children. As the kids get creative, mulled wine will be available to purchase for adults so everyone can get in the holiday mood.
If that wasn’t enough festive cheer, an array of carol concerts and Christmas concerts will be hosted at St Martins where much-loved classics like Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells, The Twelve Days of Christmas, and Silent Night will be sung and played as all the family sing along.
There’s an entire festive music programme packed full of concerts for you to get stuck in with, whether you’re feeling family Christmas classics or chamber choir ensembles. There’ll also be a Cocktails and Carols offering With all proceeds going towards St Martin’s work supporting the homeless in London, it’s the perfect way to give back this Christmas.
The pop-up is open until late from Wednesday to Saturday until 18 December, and then daily until 31 December (excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day) with specific dates for the gingerbread decorating workshops and concerts. For more information, head here.
