Here in the Secret London office, across pretty much the entire team, one cocktail rules supreme: the spicy marg. It’s become the stuff of workplace legend at this point that any team outing is likely to result in incessant orders of the piquant spiced drinks. And now, a challenge has reared its head that we’re all too happy to answer. Two London venues are laying down a gauntlet with Spicy Margarita flights to find out just how good we really are at handling the heat.
For a limited time only this February, as part of Margarita Month, Soho’s La Familia and Hackney’s Equal Parts are teaming up with Espolòn Tequila for the spicy challenge. Guests are invited to go on “a chilli-fuelled flavour journey that builds from zesty warmth to full-blown fire.”
La Familia only opened a few weeks ago, but it has already become one of the city’s must-visit spots for tacos. No doubt in part thanks to the downstairs discoteca, too! And nothing goes better with tacos than margaritas, right? Meanwhile, Equal Parts has quietly become a neighbourhood favourite for mixing up spectacular drinks in cosy, welcoming environs. So you can be sure the spicy margs are going to be perfectly made.
When and where to get the Spicy Margarita flights
If you want to test your limits, and see how spicy you can go, be sure to visit these venues for your margarita fix:
- La Familia – Spicy Margarita flight available February 20-28 (Thursday to Saturday only)
- Equal Parts – Spicy Margarita flight available February 22-28
And if you find your favourite spicy marg in the flight, you can order a full-size version of the drink. (I shudder to think how many I’m surely going to end up ordering…)

Reckon you can take on the challenge? Then round up some mates (for the moral support), or swing by with a date you want to impress, and see how far you can get. But be warned, this is most definitely not a challenge for the faint of heart. The spice-averse among you might want to stick with a refreshing classic Margarita, while your mate’s face melts off from the chilli!
