As any Brit will know, pubs are the backbone of our culture. Whether it’s heading down for drinks to celebrate something, watching a match on the big screen or just a quiet pint catching up with a pal. But none do it quite as well as The Prince of Peckham in south London.
What makes this pub truly special is that it has community at the forefront of operations, which is why they had very special visitor recently.
A visit from the future king
Now, he might not be the Prince of Peckham, but he is the Prince of England so it was a pretty big deal when the future king dropped by so see the community work happening inside the pub.
Specifically, he dropped in on one of the pub’s “Chatty Patty” sessions, which was started to tackle loneliness and social isolation. It’s a space for people to show up and meet new people without any pressure. The sessions run every Wednesday from 12-2pm.
Prince William stayed for one of the sessions, chatted to the locals and even pulled a pint behind the bar.
A pub with community at its heart
Beyond their “Chatty Patty” sessions, the pub also runs yoga sessions, poetry nights, book clubs and other creative events that help bring the community together.
The team at The Prince of Peckham also champion those from the local area by supporting local talent, as well as offering discounts to community groups.
All of this is housed in a classic pub where you can grab a proper pint and enjoy food cooked up by White Men Can’t Jerk, often known as the team behind London’s best Jerk Chicken. Apparently, Prince William even enjoyed some jerk on his visit.
Their roster of events is packed to the rafters, including screenings of World Cup matches, karaoke nights and resident DJ nights.
