Mayfair’s prettiest restaurant has gotten just that bit prettier, and certainly merrier, with the arrival of Sketch’s annual Christmas exhibition which sees four of its different venues transformed into winter wonderland scenes, each as different, spectacular and over the top as the next. It’s a supercharged avant-garde festive utopia with delicious food to boot.
Sketch has created nothing short of a fantasy land that you would have thought you could only imagine in your dreams. Presenting ‘an ode to the Christmas fantasy of a White Winter’ as their Christmas installation for 2023, guests are invited to weave across the different spaces in a dreamlike journey with exhibits designed by some of Sketch’s most beloved creative collaborators – Rebel Rebel, JamJar Flowers, and Ricky Paul – with the inaugural Christmas tree by Tony Marklew.
You’re welcomed into the wintry wonderland as soon as you step through the doors. Taking inspiration from Robert Frost’s famed poem ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’, the reception has been transformed into a picture-perfect winter woodland scene. Guests will glide under a canopy in the starlit tunnel adorned with wintry larch branches, woodland flora, and a soft bed of sea lavenders, before emerging into a clearing of silver birch trees dusted with snow.
Much of the fame that Sketch has received other than how jaw-droppingly stunning the venue is, and also why dining at Sketch will cost you a pretty penny, is largely because of the three Michelin stars that The Lecture Room and Library has under its belt. This Christmas, the restaurant is the setting of Tony Marklew’s fantastical tree which beckons guests to indulge in the extraordinary. From Dali to Magritte, the tree displays an otherworldly charm, embellished with a cascade of sparkling crystals.
The Glade dining room has been given a spectacular centrepiece that captures the essence of a winter night’s tempest. A frozen storm suspended in time hangs from the ceiling, adorned with twinkling lights, botanicals, seed heads and leaves frosted with snow. Sketch’s East Bar and Instagram-famous bathroom pods feature a larger than life snow globe depicting snow-capped trees surrounded by frosted pine and asparagus fern for the ultimate winter wonderland scene.
Sketch has undergone a glorious festive transformation that’s nothing short of a dream, it’s the perfect place to go if you’re feeling fancy and festive. Sketch’s Christmas exhibition is on until January 8 2024.
