We’re suckers for all things Shrek. First, we lapped up the exciting news of a Shrek 5 in the works, and now we get the chance to see the theatrical re-telling of the beloved story of the grumpy ogre and his fairytale companions in London once more. Shrek The Musical can be found at the Eventim Apollo for six weeks only – from July 19 to August 31.
The production first ran in London from 2011 to 2013, and now – almost ten years later – it is back, recreating the hit Broadway and West End show Shrek the Musical, with an award-winning creative team at the helm. Boasting a team of big names who’ve worked on globally loved productions such as Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast and Rock of Ages, guests are in for an epic adventure, with the iconic songs and story from David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori’s original musical forming part of the reimagined show.
The official synopsis reads: “Join our unlikely hero Shrek and his noble steed Donkey as they embark on a big, bright, musical adventure. Based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks animated film, the Broadway and West End hit Shrek the Musical is a fun-filled, hilarious musical comedy with a cast of vibrant characters and a ‘shrektacular’ score.”
The original Broadway and West End shows have been nominated for some huge awards, including multiple Tony’s and Olivier awards. In this six-week stint in London, you’ll see Antony Lawrence don the ogre ears of Shrek, Todrick Hall as the wise-cracking Donkey, Joanne Clifton as the badass Princess Fiona and Cherece Richards as the eyelash-fluttering dragon.
