Netflix released a new teaser for Season 4 of its popular TV show ‘Sex Education’ today (July 5), confirming it will be the final season of the series. The release date is officially September 21 of this year, so, thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long.
In the trailer, we can witness all of our favourite characters return one last time, with familiar faces such as Sophie Thompson (yes!), Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey and Aimee Lou Wood. Plus, we caught a tiny glimpse of the one and only Dan Levy, who played David in ‘Schitts Creek’!
Created by Lauren Nunn, ‘Sex Education’ explores the complex themes of teenage struggles, self-exploration, physical and emotional relationships, as well as mental health, zooming into the lives of students in a small English town. Since airing, the series has been praised for its ensemble cast, the writing, directing and the overall message of sex positivity behind the show.
Lauren also posted a heartfelt message on the ‘Sex Education’ Instagram, expressing her “bittersweet” sentiments behind Season 4 being the last. “A lot has happened since our first writer’s room in 2017, when we spent a month in a cramped office above a sex shop, talking about what it felt like to go through puberty. The painful awkwardness, first crushes and big, big feelings. […]”
“It’s been overwhelming seeing how the show has connected with people around the world, and we hope it’s made some of you feel a little less alone, too. […]”, continued Lauren.
The creator then explained the reasons behind taking the tough decision to wrap up the show with Season 4, saying: “This was not an easy decision to make, but as the themes and stories of the new season crystallised, it became clear that it was the right time to graduate. […]”
Well, all good things must come to an end eventually, but we still have a brand new season to look forward to, so let’s savour it the best we can!
