Rooftop season tends to wind down alongside the temperature around this time of year, but Skylight always know how to draw us all in with our big coats and hats.
For one, the view over London never changes, remaining tip-top throughout every season; and then there’s the unique aspects such as this rooftop pumpkin patch (!), complete with cosy igloos to ward off the cold, that is just guaranteed to be a hit.
It’s a wonder this genius concept hasn’t been floated before — when you think about it, the concepts of rooftop views and pumpkins have more in common than you might think. Both provide excellent Instagram photo opportunities; both light up in the dark; and both are enjoyed by the Secret London faithful.
Meld them together? That’s sure to breed dangerous results, and you’ll likely wish to test out the mashup this Halloween at Skylight Tobacco Dock. The ravishing rooftop has transformed into a pumpkin patch for the rest of October, culminating on All Hallows Eve.
Sure, you’ll probably spend the first moments (or hours) getting that inch-perfect snap on the rooftop, but after that you’ll be wanting to try one of their autumnal drinks range. As this is October we’re talking about, visitors can get their hands on a Pumpkin Spice Cocktail or a blood orange bramble; or if you’re feeling like getting in the festive spirit a little early, there’s also mulled wine on hand warm you up as you huddle into an igloo and cast your eyes out over the view.
If you get peckish there’s a new street food menu developed by Skylight’s chef, Karan, which includes truffle mac n cheese, tender roast pork belly and bratwursts – just to keep you in that Oktoberfest swing. Finish off with some mean churros to top off your visit to ultimate seasonal Halloween rooftop.
The Rooftop Pumpkin Patch at Skylight runs all the way through until October 31. Find it at Skylight Tobacco Dock, E1W 2SF (nearest stations are Shadwell and Wapping).
