‘Gimme shelter from the sunshine for just a second’, I hear you cry. Well, one of the best places to escape the brutal sun is an exhibition, right? Particularly one as captivating as the latest photography exhibition to open in London. The new Rolling Stones photography exhibition is filled entirely with photographs of the Stones captured by Gus Coral. The kicker? They’ve never been viewed by the public before.
The photos were taken just a year after they first formed, and provide an early insight into the band’s career ahead of becoming the monumental world superstars we know them as today.
Rolling Stones: Unseen ’63
Rolling Stones: Unseen ’63 shows off snaps of the band from the very early days. You’ll find the exhibition at the Dockside Vaults in St Katherine’s Docks, with the collection of photos by Gus Coral on display between June 6 – September 10.
The photos were taken in the autumn of ’63, when the band headed out on their first UK tour alongside the Everly Brothers and Bo Diddley. It’s just a short time before they became the force we know them as now, and in advance of them recording the stacked catalogue of music that would make them so famous
Tickets start at £15, and each comes with a drink. To mark the occasion, there are special Rolling Stones-themed cocktails – including the Jumpin’ Jack Flash (whiskey-based with a kick) and Satisfaction Sour (gin with a bitter edge) – to give you the true rock ‘n’ roll experience.
Speaking on the exhibition, Gus Coral said: “These photographs have been a closely guarded secret for over 60 years, seen only by a handful of people. They capture The Rolling Stones in a way the world has never witnessed, raw, ambitious, and on the cusp of greatness in 1963. I’m thrilled to finally share them with the world.”
