Grab the legwarmers and head back to the 80s at Roller Nation.
If you’re like me, and utterly unburdened by dancing talent, you may find nightclubs a minefield of flailing limbs and awkward shape-throwing. Still, if you put that hot mess on wheels, it instantly becomes immeasurably more fun – which is why the reopening of Roller Nation is a cause for celebration.
Roller Nation has had a rather nomadic existence in the past – having popped up in Vauxhall and Kings Cross in previous iterations – but their new home in Tottenham is pretty special. The only purpose-built roller disco rink in the UK awaits you, complete with disco balls and plenty of dancefloor to get your groove on. You’d be in esteemed company, too: Kate Middleton and Madonna are amongst the many who’ve paid a call to Roller Nation.
The venue has rather quietly been open since January, hosting the likes of Soul Skate Thursdays and Roller Boogie Fridays, but they’ve waited until summer for the big celebration; a ‘Skate The Decades’ party on June 22nd, complete with tunes from the 60s ’til now. After you’ve whipped round the rink like a pro (you will of course be allowed to gently feel your way around the sides), you can check out a lineup of street food traders at the venue’s outdoor space.
Plus, if you’re short a suitably bitchin’ outfit, the good folks of Punk Baroque will be on hand to furnish you with something vintage. It’s the ultimate throwback experience, with the added thrills and spills of being spectacularly uncoordinated on wheels!
