The sandwich may be a humble menu item at its core, but we Londoners sure love it. Whether we’re scarfing down meal deals or unhinging our jaws for a bread-wrapped behemoth, our love for sandwiches runs the gamut. And one of the city’s best sarnie makers, Rogue Sarnies, has just opened up a brand new spot in Bethnal Green.
What started as a humble sandwich spot in a tiny Hackney Road conservatory has grown into one of the city’s most in-demand places to eat. Despite only just opening in the summer of 2023, they’ve already had to move to a bigger and better space to satisfy demand due to daily sell-outs and limited outdoor seating.
The new location allows the Rogue Sarnies team to make more sandwiches and serve more customers without compromising on quality. The new shop is six times bigger than the original site, with plenty of room for customers to eat inside and outside. There is also increased prep space, allowing the team to make plenty of sandwiches and ensure no one misses out.
The increased space will also see the team expanding their offering. The new Rogue Sarnies spot features an extended drinks menu with the likes of boozy slushies, Moet by the glass, beers, and more. They’ll also be dreaming up all manner of exciting new sandwich fillings and flavours.
Inside Rogue Sarnies
So, just what is Rogue Sarnies slapping in between slices of bread to become so popular? Their rogue toppings utilise top-quality ingredients from around Britain and Europe, and are good enough to be restaurant menu dishes in their own right. They come served in Rogue Sarnies’ now-iconic wood-fired rolls that smash together the worlds of pizza and bread. Crowd favourites include the likes of:
- The Lord Nelson – essentially a Sunday roast in a sandwich. This sarnie creation features wood-fired topside and sticky beef shin, caramelised onions, gravy, horseradish cream, pickled roasted onions, landcress, parsley salad, and Monterey Jack cheese.
- Sloppy Guiseppe – Slow-cooked beef shin bolognese, jalapeños, mozzarella, and burnt lemon aioli.
- OG Marmite Cheesy – a decadent mix of three cheeses and Sticky Marmite glaze. They claim that “even if you hate Marmite… this might convert you”.
Keep an eye on their Instagram, where they post their daily sub specials. These are available in limited quantities, but thanks to the new site you can still expect to luck out (if you’re not too late).
Said Freddie Sheen, co-founder of Rogue Sarnies:
“We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support from our amazing customers. The immediate demand for decent sarnies has been beyond what we ever could have expected, we knew after six months that we had to grow to keep up… It’s going to be an exciting year for us all!!
So, whether you’re an OG fan or have yet to try out their food, make sure you visit soon. It’s the “same great sarnies, just more of them!”
