Not only are they adorable, but they also teach children the value of kindness and community.
Inspired by the lovely rainbows that Spanish children have been displaying in their windows, English speaking countries have now joined in! They have created the equivalent of #desdemiventana — #frommywindow. The message is one of hope and optimism, which is badly needed whilst at least 20% of the world’s population is in lockdown. If you’ve ever had to entertain a child indoors for days on end, you’ll appreciate how difficult it can be to occupy them. Accordingly, arts and crafts are an absolute godsend for busy parents and carers. Plus, it gives little ones a chance to participate in community life without even leaving the house.
Some rainbows feature words of encouragement for NHS workers, carers and other incredibly valuable key workers. Additionally, some key workers have discovered little stones, painted by children and left in the grass for others to find on their way to work. These lovely little tokens of appreciation lift spirits at a time when it is badly needed. They also show that the world cares about those who are caring for the world. Once found, they are meant to be re-hidden to that another person can find them. Just remember to wash your hands afterwards, should you find one!
