It’s a quandary that Londoners often have, ‘which pub shall we go to?’ With heaps and heaps of watering holes to choose from in this city, it’s no surprise that this is an issue that we run into but now the new app ‘Pub Club’ aims to remedy this. The free app is at your service to find you just the right pub you need for whatever occasion.
The app was conceived last year when two ‘new-to-London’ friends (now co-founders of Pub Club) Tom Ireland-Life and Freddie Bermingham faced that very same issue; it was a gloomy November Sunday morning and they were on the hunt for the perfect pub to have a Sunday roast that had sofas, a fireplace, and of course Sky Sports to watch the footie on. But alas, after numerous Google searches they were at a dead-end but were resolved to find a better way to find the perfect pub. Thus, Pub Club was born.
How does it work?
The in-app filters allow you to to easily select your desired pub attributes which will draw you up a list of pubs that the app thinks best fits the bill. The filters include affordability, music, ambiance, activities, viewings, wheelchair accessibility, beer garden availability, and cocktail offerings to really pinpoint exactly what kind of pub you’re after for that occasion. The handy little map view helps you explore the listed pubs on the app which already has over 350 pubs listed in South and West London since its launch, with the founders having ambitions of covering around 2,000 pubs across London by the end of the year, with further UK coverage in the following year.
The app also features a section aptly named ‘The Chalkboard’ where pubs within your radius are able to advertise events such as live music, comedy nights, pub quizzes, and drink offers. The apps helps pub owners to market their establishments, menus, and entertainment to their regulars and also to prospective visitors. Customers can also rate the pubs they visit and share their top recommendations with friends online, whilst pubs are able to track the number of views their pub is getting through the app and respond to reviews from customers. Pub Club is here to elevate the pub-going experience.
Pub Club co-founder Tom says, “the British pub scene has suffered a great deal recently due to the pandemic; 150 pubs in England and Wales permanently closed within the first few months of 2023. We are hoping that Pub Club helps not only punters but the industry itself by providing a new way to put cash in the till for both chain-based and independent pubs.”
To mark its launch, Pub Club are running an inaugural ‘Golden Ticket’ campaign starting in July and running throughout summer. Lucky app users who check into pubs between July and the end of September by scanning the bar-side QR codes will have the chance to win an enticing prize of £100 bar credit which sounds very tempting indeed. For the apps future ambitions, Pub Club has plans to expand its features to include meticulously curated bar crawls and a convenient table booking function, all seamlessly integrated into the app’s user-friendly interface.
The app is free to download and use for pub-goers, download Pub Club app here.
