2. Passeie pelas The Lanes para comprar roupas vintage e ver um pouco de história
Brighton é famosa pelas suas lojas de roupa vintage, cujo coração se encontra em The Lanes – um labirinto serpenteante de pequenas ruelas que também albergam uma pletora de lojas de antiguidades, salões de tatuagens, galerias de arte, livrarias independentes e lojas de bricabraque.
Partes desta zona histórica remontam ao século XVI, quando Brighton era uma pequena cidade piscatória chamada Brighthelmstone. Para os grandes artistas, o melhor é ver o que se passa no Brighton Centre, com capacidade para 5.000 pessoas, que, para além das digressões, também tem comédia, teatro e muito mais.
8. Mergulhe na história LGBTQ+ num passeio a pé
Como mencionado na nossa introdução, Brighton é indiscutivelmente a capital LGBTQ+ do Reino Unido – não nos façam frente a outras cidades – e o seu epicentro situa-se em Kemptown, um bairro encantador, semelhante a uma aldeia, adornado com bandeiras do arco-íris e muitas vezes considerado um dos bairros mais fixes de todo o mundo. Nada mau, pois não?

Dado que estás mesmo junto à praia, seria rude não provar algum marisco quando estás em Brighton – desculpa os vegetarianos e vegans – e a cidade tem alguns restaurantes incríveis se quiseres provar algum. Uma das nossas melhores escolhas é o The Regency, que tem vindo a preparar marisco épico para os habitantes locais e turistas desde a década de 1930.

10. Obtenha sua dose de cultura no Hove Museum of Creativity
Abutres da cultura – ouçam! Se queres ter a tua dose de cultura, recomendamos que vás ao Museu da Criatividade de Hove, que é parte museu, parte galeria de arte e, basicamente, um intrigante pau para toda a obra.
Eles têm uma série de exposições rotativas durante todo o ano, duas galerias interativas dedicadas à história do cinema e o “Sótão do Mágico” – um tesouro de brinquedos que remonta ao século XVIII. O Mash Tun e o já mencionado The Cricketers são óptimos locais mesmo no centro da cidade, e o Saint James Tavern é uma escolha de topo em Kemptown – a sua comida libanesa é absolutamente fantástica, há que dizê-lo. Há também alguns locais junto à praia – é fácil perder algumas horas no Fortune of War, e o Ohso Social, mesmo ao lado, é bom para cocktails mais sofisticados. Mas nada de “sexo na praia”…
12. Dar um passeio pelas paisagens de South Downs
A terminar esta lista das melhores coisas para fazer em Brighton está, bem, algo que tecnicamente não fica em Brighton. Mas aqui na Secret London gostamos de contornar as regras, por isso… O Parque Nacional de South Downs fica a poucos passos de Brighton e Hove, e é facilmente acessível de carro, autocarro ou mesmo de bicicleta.
Sinónimo de colinas verdes ondulantes, aldeias em forma de caixa de chocolate, bosques antigos e imponentes penhascos de giz banhados pelas águas do Canal da Mancha. É um lugar mágico e há muito para explorar, desde o vale de Devil’s Dyke – o maior vale seco do Reino Unido, que é propriedade de ninguém menos que o National Trust – a inúmeras vinhas como Albourne e Wiston. Talvez a nossa coisa favorita para fazer aqui seja o passeio rural de Seaford a Eastbourne, que o leva diretamente sobre o penhasco de giz mais alto da Grã-Bretanha, Beachy Head, e passando pela aldeia de Cuckmere Haven.
