Poppies are back up to their usual festive shenanigans, proving once more that there can be no end to what they will deep fry at Christmas time. This year, they’ve upped the anté with another festive dessert taking a battering, with a deep-fried Yule log now on the menu over at one of their London restaurants.
Over the years, they’ve picked out a different item over the festive period to put into the deep fat fryer, and this time, the classic festive chocolate dessert is getting the treatment. If this sounds up your street or you wish to taste it out of morbid curiosity, you can try it over at Poppies Soho until New Year’s Eve.

They’ll be serving up portions of three mini Yule logs, each deep-fried and served up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This year’s treat follows their deep-fried Christmas pudding last year, and previous numbers have included mince pies, Ferrero Rocher, Quality Streets, Pigs in blankets, and more.
And when you try one of these, you’ll also be giving to an important cause. Proceeds from each deep-fried Yule log will be going towards their charity partner, Thames Reach, which is working to end rough sleeping in London.
Speaking on their deep-fried creation this year, Poppies said: “We’ve battered many things in our time, but this one really takes the (Christmas) cake. It’s fun, festive, and downright delicious. But most importantly, it supports a cause close to our hearts. Christmas is a time for togetherness, and in the spirit of giving back to the community we love, Poppies is proud to partner with Thames Reach. We hope this helps make the season a little brighter and opens the door to a more positive future for the people they support.”
Try the deep-fried festive Yule log at Poppies in Soho until December 31, 2025. You’ll be able to eat in or take away, and you can find them at 55-59 Old Compton Street, W1D 6HW (nearest stations are Piccadilly Circus, Tottenham Court Road, and Leicester Square).
