Cupcakes, lattes, mime classes – you’ve gotta catch ’em all!
We’re now a mere week away from the opening of the year’s unlikeliest film: Detective Pikachu. (If you’ve not seen the trailer yet, you’re in for an absolute TREAT.) Whilst it’s sure to be a deep, albeit surprisingly noir, look into the Pokemon world, another immersive fascination is arriving a little ahead of time. On May 3rd & 4th, a Pokemon pop-up is arriving in Covent Garden, and you’ve really got to take a Chansey and go.
Yep, don’t let anyone be Tentacruel and Weedle their way out of coming with you, because that would just be Gastly. Set over two storeys, the Pokemon Detective Pikachu Pop-up (to give it the grand title) is a temple of Pokemon treats. An eye-wateringly yellow ground floor is dedicated to the man furry electric mouse, the myth, the pint-sized Detective Pikachu himself, complete with yellow turmeric lattes, yellow bubble tea, and Detective Pikachu-printed coffee.
Downstairs, you’ll find a neon-drenched homage to the film’s setting, Ryme City. A whole host of themed activities can be found here, from nail art, cupcake icing with Great British Bake-Off contestant Kim-Joy, and Mr Mime-inspired miming classes. Best of all, you can channel your inner Jigglypuff in the interactive karaoke booths, which surely necessitates a stirring rendition of this Absolute Banger:
Unfortunately, you’ll need to get a little lucky to get inside – as waiting list tickets are the only ones left. Maybe you can Charmander your way in?
You’ll find the Pokemon pop-up a brief walk from Covent Garden (exact location is revealed on your ticket) from May 3rd-4th.
