If you fancy a massive billboard of yourself at Piccadilly Circus, there’s probably a few ways to get it done. We’ll reveal one to you right now: be on the throne for 70 years. Easy enough, right?
To celebrate the first time this milestone has been hit (and maybe ever will be?), the gigantic boards at Piccadilly Circus have been kitted out in royal fashion.
And, the powers that be have given the Queen a bit of the “then vs now” treatment, showing Elizabeth II in 1952 as she took the throne next to an image of her today. In between the two pictures is a sign reading ” The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022″.
Even though the extra-bank holiday celebrations across the country are pencilled in for the summer, the 70-year milestone actually passed this month. Queen Elizabeth II took to the throne on February 6 1952, aged 25, following the death of her father, King George VI.
The billboard marks one of the first points of celebration for the Platinum Jubilee year, and come June, we’re sure it’ll seem like a drop in the ocean compared to what happens in the summer sun. Granted, a drop that would make a pretty hefty ripple – look at the size of those billboards, after all. Read about the schedule for the Platinum Jubilee weekend here.
