The ultra-charming Petersham Nurseries in Richmond is now reopen.
One of the last weekends I had before lockdown was spent wandering around the frankly dreamy greenhouses and tearooms of Petersham Nurseries in Richmond, so it’s music to my ears to learn of their reopening. Having been closed since March 22 due to the pandemic, they were able to throw open the doors again this week after the government permitted gardening centres to reopen. Whilst your time at Petersham Nurseries is best spent with a leisurely wander through the greenhouses, and preferably a stop at their truly excellent tearoom, social distancing measures mean that the garden centre is open for shopping purposes only. No coffee, cake, or finding that perfect Instagram shot, I’m afraid. Still, that means you can bring a little bit of Petersham home with you, as they’re still selling plants, bulbs, seeds, and tools to get that garden of yours looking spiffy.
Petersham Nurseries have also reopened their furniture and homeware greenhouse, which is quite honestly a space for everything I need but sadly can’t afford right now. They’re also planning to offer takeaway food once they’re confident they can get the process right – which is a glorious excuse to get some cake in you – and will be maintaining strict social distancing rules throughout visits. That means a limit on visitor numbers, and making sure that only one person per household visits at any one time. Still, it’s a nice step before we’re able to make the more leisurely visit this place deserves!
Petersham Nurseries is currently open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm.
