Now comes the time of year when everyone is taking the train, whether it be to celebrate in the festivities around the city, flee the city in time for Christmas day, or dart frantically around the capital in search of last-minute gifts.
Always remember to keep an eye out on the Tube situation before setting out on your adventures, though, and take note that parts of the DLR will be closing for a 10-day period at the end of the month.
Which parts of the DLR are closing?
The DLR line between Shadwell and Bank is closing between December 21-30 to carry out track repairs. This will, of course, run across the part of the festive period where most people are sat at home with the family, but it will certainly affect the routes of many travellers on the days bookending ‘actual Christmas’.
On December 21-23, the DLR will also face closures between Price Regent station and Beckton due to TfL shutting off the section for testing of the brand-new DLR trains. These trains have been teased by TfL before, and do not yet have a confirmed release date – though we will be anticipating their breezy air-conditioning to come during the summer months. They were delayed indefinitely after the first set of the fleet of new trains were initially due to hit the tracks this year, though we’ll bring you the news as soon as any new dates are slated.
The DLR will close between Shadwell and Bank for 10 days from December 21 for track repairs. It will also close between Prince Regent and Beckon on December 21-23 to test the new DLR trains. You can re-plan your journey accordingly on the TfL website, and be sure to check before travelling around this Christmas.
