Tube fares are going up across the London Underground this weekend, with prices set to jump by 4.6%, while tram and bus fares remain frozen in the capital.
Single fares on the Tube were frozen until 2025, but as we reach that period, pay-as-you-go single fares will rise 10p up to £2.80. These changes will come into play from March 2.
Previously speaking on the rise in Tube fares, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “Following the government’s budget, ministers made clear that to secure national funding for key transport projects in the future, TfL Tube and rail fares would need to increase in line with national rail fares. Vital national government funding will allow us to progress exciting future projects, such as Superloop 2 and more upgrades to the Tube network.”
Fare increases
Daily caps are also set to rise by 40p for anyone travelling in Zones 1 & 2 to £8.90 a day, and for those travelling in Zone 1-3, the prices will go up 50p to £10.50 a day. The London Underground fares will increase across all services, including the DLR, London Overground, and Elizabeth line.
Bus and tram fares remain frozen – as they have been since 2016. Customers will still pay just £1.75 for unlimited journeys within the hour.
“More Londoners use the bus than any other form of public transport,” added Sadiq Khan. “And it will particularly benefit those on the lowest incomes.”
The 4.6% rise in fares on TfL comes as rail fares rise by the same amount across the country. The price of Adult Travelcards will also increase by the same amount.
TfL confirmed that concession prices, such as Zip Photocards, 18+ student cards, the 18-25 Care leavers pass, and 60+ cards, will stay unchanged.
Fares on the Tube will rise on March 2, 2025. Bus and tram fares will remain frozen.
