Travel-loving Londoners, listen up – because I come bearing some ferry interesting news. And today’s transport-related titbit comes in the form of a fancy new ‘sleep lounge’ that’s soon to open on board one of the UK’s most popular ferry services.
The sea-faring service in question runs between Hull and Rotterdam, courtesy of the boating-bigwigs over at P&O Ferries. Having been wading through the waters of the North Sea since 1967, the route has been connecting the vibrant English city of Hull with the ‘Gateway to the World’ (AKA Rotterdam) for almost 60 years. And it’s about to get a bit of an upgrade.
From July 13, the overnight service will offer a new sleep lounge ticket option. The lounge will feature 36 recliner seats (the kind of seats you’d find in business class on a flight), giving passengers the chance to still get a decent night’s kip, even if they don’t fancy splashing out on one of the private cabins on board.

The journey between Hull and Rotterdam takes around 12 hours in total, departing the northern English city at around 8pm and traversing the North Sea through the night. Passengers who opt for the sleep lounge will be treated to a blanket, a locker, and access to the ferry’s array of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and entertainment options.
Journey prices vary quite substantially depending on when you wish to travel, but upgrading to the sleep lounge will only set passengers back an additional £25 – offering passengers a more eco-conscious way of travelling between the UK and the Netherlands that’s both comfortable and cost-effective. What more could you want, hey?
Louisa Bell, Chief Commercial Officer at P&O Ferries, said: “Every journey is different, and we want customers to have the choice of options that work best for them. Whether they are travelling with friends, heading away for a short break or starting a longer trip into Europe, the sleep lounge is another way to make the crossing while experiencing the atmosphere and facilities that come with travelling by ferry.”
