You need ALL this colour in your life.
Though recent days may have suggested otherwise (looking at you, rainclouds), summer is well underway. So, it’s only right that we should be trying to get in the mood after a grey winter in lockdown; and what better way of doing that is there than surrounding yourself with vibrant colours.
At this immersive, free installation at Greenwich peninsula that’s exactly what you can do. Titled Promise Me Memories And I Will Let You In, the latest stunning piece of craft by the river at Tide Space is delivered by London-based artist Yinka Ilori MBE.
Tide Space has seen a glowup like no other, with the elevated walkway now surrounded by swathes of pink, green, orange, yellow and more. What you see before you is now a riverside hub; i.e. an ideal summertime spot in the city. Now, if the weather could just play ball, that’d be grand.
Until September 19, Greenwich peninsula will enjoy the colourful setting as a playscape for both adults and children to relish in the summer sunshine. Londoners will be treated to a full programme, from live music performances in a safe outdoor setting, to film screenings to talks. You can view the full schedule for the “Summer Sessions” at Greenwich peninsula here.
Yinka llori said: “After a year being deprived of time with loved ones, fun, and the chance to meet new people, I wanted to create an experience where people will feel joy with others once again. The installation invites visitors to have fun and promise they will create new memories, and the riverside location of the Peninsula, its open spaces and creative community make it the perfect setting. I hope it becomes a place people will return to throughout the summer, as they reclaim lost time through play.”
The shapes and patterns that make up Yinka Ilori’s unique installation are taken from his own memories of architectural spaces and colours collected throughout the last year as he ran and cycled in search for inspiration. Included in the experience are hopscotches, a crazy golf course, vibrant picnic benches and much more, all encapsulating Ilori’s style.
You can catch this stunning installation at Greenwich peninsula, just two minutes from North Greenwich station, between now and September 19, 2021.
