There are certain things that are just completely synonymous with Christmas in London: The Oxford Street Christmas lights, Winter Wonderland, Somerset House’s ice rink, the list goes on. Every year, Londoners excitedly await the moment when the city gets its festive glow up. And this year, the English National Ballet are sprinkling an extra bit of festive magic across the capital city, as their spellbinding production of The Nutcracker returns to London Coliseum this December.
A smash-hit whenever it appears, The Nutcracker will pirouette into London town on December 14, after completing a short run in Southampton. The story of Clara and her enchanted Nutcracker doll is a classic that has delighted audiences for over a century. Clara’s journey takes her from Edwardian London to a magical realm, where she will battle the Mouse King and meet a handsome stranger. If only that happened on the Central Line, hey? She also takes a detour to the land of sweets, as if we weren’t jealous enough of her already.
The much-loved festive treat will be returning for just 40 performances, continuing English National Ballet’s tradition of presenting a version of The Nutcracker every year since it was founded in 1950. This production of the family-favourite ha been choreographed by Wayne Eagling and will feature over 100 dancers and musicians, bringing Tchaikovsky’s iconic score to life.
Tickets are on sale now, so you’d better be quick to grab them! We guarantee you won’t find anything quite as enchanting on Netflix, so treat yourself to an evening at the ballet instead…
