It’s officially the season for pretending you’ve stepped straight into a Richard Curtis movie. And so the fact that the perfect backdrop for our rom-com reenactments has just hit London’s property market is pretty darn convenient, don’t you think?
Quite possibly the most famous blue door on the planet is the one that leads to the home of Hugh Grant’s character in everybody’s favourite London-based film, Notting Hill. And the rather gorgeous gaff behind that very door has been put up for sale – here’s everything you need to know about it.
The three-bedroom pad is perched on Westbourne Park Road, just a stone’s through from Portobello Road. The property actually used to belong to the film’s screenwriter, Richard Curtis, but since then, it’s been in the hands of businessman, Neil Hutchinson. In the beloved 1999 movie, the bright blue door leads to the fictional home of William Thacker. In real life, it opens into a townhouse that spans 2,752 square-feet and is up for sale with the property-pros over at Sotheby’s for a whopping £7.5 million.

Inside the property
The property is drenched in natural light and boasts a humongous open plan kitchen, dining room, and living space. The house was originally built as an artist’s studio and a first-floor gallery wraps around almost the entirety of the perimeter of the space. There’s a study lined with bookshelves, three bedrooms (one of which comes complete with a big old en-suite bathroom), huge vaulted ceilings, period fireplaces, and stain-glass windows. The property oozes character and charm – but would we expect anything less from a piece of cinematic history.
One of the sparkliest jewels in the property’s crown comes in the form of a spiral staircase that leads to a lush-and-leafy courtyard and a rather surreptitious roof terrace, offering the dreamiest location for watching the people of Notting Hill go about their daily business.

The property’s instantly recognisable front door continues to draw crowds of film-fanatics to this very day, but it isn’t actually the original door from the film. That specific entryway was auctioned off for charity, but its replacement still boasts the striking shade of blue that we’ve all come to know and love.
