Sorry guys, but this year there will be no free New Year’s Eve travel, according to Transport for London. Of course, transport will still run throughout the night, to help people get home safely from a good night out, but we’ll have to shell out a bit of cash for the convenience like we do the rest of the year.
This isn’t the first year of no free New Year’s Eve travel in London. In fact, back in 2020, Transport for London first broke its streak of offering free transport on the all-important evening itself. Obviously, that was all down to the pandemic though.
Then, we crossed our fingers and hoped that 2021 but again Transport for London announced no free travel. So, it looks as though the tradition of hopping on the tube for free on New Year’s Eve might have disappeared from our lives for good. How sad.
Over Christmas and New Year, most of our services are running. However, there are changes due to planned works, closures, service changes and strikes.
Plan ahead and check your travel

Again, the tube will run all night but there will be reduced service on some lines. On the District Line, there will be no service between Earls Court and Kensington Olympia until January 2. There are also a couple of replacement buses operating on the Elizabeth Line until January 2.
There will be some gaps in service on the London Overground too and the Waterloo & City Line won’t be running on New Year’s Eve. However, you should still be able to get where you’re going, just make sure to check the Transport for London website for any information on your route.
