Though this might be a London website, we do find it fun to have a peek over at mainland Europe when news of cool new train services drops, allowing us to dream of summer holidays in the depths of a sub-zero winter.
So, our eyes have definitely widened at the prospect of handing over a ticket to the inspectors aboard this service, Nightjet, which is now up and running and heads to multiple destinations from Stuttgart. And the Austrian-run operator has a pretty epic name to boot.
Upon leaving the south German city, the Nightjet runs through a treasure trove of beautiful European cities across the nations of Austria, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia.
Using the new night train service, passengers are linked from Stuttgart to cities such as Vienna, Budapest, Venice, Zagreb and many more. You can view the new timetable, which came into effect on December 11, via the Nightjet website. The new Nightjar operation is an extension to Stuttgart from the previous route across Europe.
If you’re not smitten by the thought of heading out over Europe for multiple stops, then you’ll be glad to know that during certain times of the year (Christmas and summer, for example), a 15-hour direct train from Stuttgart to Rijeka in Croatia will run.
Between this, sleeper routes to the Austrian alps, and a new route allowing you to get from London to Stockholm in 24 hours, it’s safe to say 2022 has been a good year for train lovers. I’m sure 2023 will see a wave of new travel possibilities, but for now, get booking!
