National Tequila Day (July 24) is once again in our heavenly horizon, and Temper is celebrating this agave-fuelled holiday in full force with celebrations lasting for a week. Temper have created a new menu for National Tequila Day in collaboration with Cazcabel Tequila that’s available for one week and one week only from July 24-29 available at their Soho, Covent Garden, Shoreditch and City locations. Looks like we’re in for a boozy week, and you’ll hear no complaints here.
The limited edition menu feature three different tacos that are pair with a tequila, perfectly complimenting each other and bringing out some amazing flavours. First up to try was the Drunken Pig which were the succulent smoked ham hock tacos with pigs cheeks, refried beans, smoked apple puree, topped with guidilla chilli and crackling. The Drunken Pig is paired with Cazcabel Blanco, The Drunken Pig tacos were a hit and a personal favourite out of the three. The pork was smoked to juicy perfection, whilst the apple puree added a tinge of sweetness to balance the flavours and the crackling delicious crunch to the tacos.
Next up was the Drunken Goat tacos paired with the Reposado, aged in oak barrels with notes of earth agave balanced with vanilla and a jalapeno tingle finish. The tacos featured Somerset Cabroito Goat smoked over the open fire pits in their mouth watering BBQ rub served with choptile sour cream and green sauce with crispy shallots. For someone who isn’t a typical fan of goat, I was thoroughly impressed with how tender the meat was and the Reposado was the perfect thing to compliment its smokey flavours.
The Drunken Goats Cheese is the vegetarian option that’s just as mouth-watering as its meaty counterparts. Goats cheese that has been gently charred is accompanied with tangy pickled red onion, crunchy nuts, fresh short herbs, honey and lime dressing, and is paired with the honey liquor, rich and sweet with beautiful notes of warm natural honey. It’s certainly the lightest of the tacos, with the tart goats cheese just falling apart in your mouth pairing deliciously with the honey liquor for a lovely sweet finish.
Three bespoke tequila based cocktails are also on offer, featuring ‘Hi Honey’, ‘Cazcabel Coffee Flip’, and the ‘Pina Picante’. The Pina Picante was certainly the star of the show for me, cocktail wise, and gave me the refreshing and fruity perk I needed, with just the right amount of spice.
All in all the menu features the best of what both Temper and Cazcabel have to offer, and really showed off how diverse the spirit’s range is making it a top notch way to celebrate National Tequila Day, or rather week. You’ll be in for a particularly boozy meal as the tequila pairings are very generous, with two sizeable tequila shots accompanying each taco dish. But no matter, Temper’s a la carte menu is nothing short of delicious perfection so you’ve got plenty of other dishes to accompany your tacos. We’ll cheers to that!
The limited edition menu is available for lunch and dinner from July 24-29 at Temper’s Soho, Covent Garden, Shoreditch and City locations. Head to Temper’s website here to grab your booking and get your tequila on.
