It’s no secret that London has a love affair with pints of stout and Irish pubs. The trouble is, that love often comes with a hefty price (sometimes exceeding the £7 mark! gulp). The result of that love affair (besides empty bank accounts) is that everyone has a strong opinion about which pub in London serves up the very best pint of the black stuff (aka Guinness). But London’s newest Irish pub, Nancy Spain’s, is looking to change the conversation entirely…
Opening just last month in Shoreditch, Nancy Spain’s comes to our fair city courtesy of two brothers from Kerry, Peter and Nicholas O’Halloran. The two have worked in the hospitality industry in Ireland all their lives. Following some successes with Irish products and service in London, they finally went the whole hog to open their own Irish pub.
The O’Halloran’s are keen for Londoners to be able to relax and immerse themselves in “the true modern Irish Pub culture”. That means lashings of “warm hospitality, soulful live music, and beloved Irish drinks and snacks”.
The kicker? They don’t serve Guinness. Instead, they’re proudly pouring pints of another much-loved stout that is rarely found in London pubs: Murphy’s. But don’t let that deter you – Murphy’s is a proper Irish favourite. Give it a try and you’ll understand why!
Not a fan of stouts? You’ll easily find something else to drink, with options ranging from Nancy Spain’s’ own house lager to a handful of other well-known pubby pints.
Beyond the beer at Nancy Spain’s
Even if you’re not a beer drinker, there’s plenty to choose from at Nancy Spain’s. They pride themselves, after all, on their cocktails and whiskey selection. We’ve got our eyes on the boozy Nancy’s Irish Coffee and the Oscar Wilde cocktail, which is made with Irish Poitín. And for sipping they’ve got the classics such as “Jamesons, West Cork Whistler and Connemara as well as smaller brands distilled in the home county of the pub’s owners including Dingle Whiskey.”
To keep you fed, they’ll have a rotating kitchen offering, so keep an eye on their Instagram to find out what’s on the menu. But be sure not to skip the beloved Taytos for crunching on alongside your pint. It’s a top-tier crisp and a nigh-on-unbeatable bar snack.
Psst… They’ve also got some impressive happy hour discounts. Until the middle of April you can order two of their signature cocktails for the price of one from 3-5pm on Sundays, and 5-7pm on Monday-Thursdays. Act fast or else you’ll miss out!
So next time you’re headed for the pub, why not try out some genuine Irish hospitality… They’re ready and waiting for you!
