Mulled Wine

Not feeling festive? Let’s mull it over some wine…

There are very few things in life more satisfying than a cup of mulled wine. The spices, the aroma, the warmth – it’s simply heaven in a cup. It’s just as well that a festival dedicated to the Christmassy beverage is taking place in Covent Garden from today (December 10). Covent Garden have really outdone themselves this year. First, their dazzling lights display and show-stopping Christmas tree took centre stage, then they announced that the piazza would be dusted with flurries of snow every day this month, and now this!

For the next two weeks, the Winter Warmer Fortnight will see bars, restaurants, pop-ups and cafes in the area serving over 100 varieties of mulled wine, alongside hot toddies, hot chocolate and teas. Everything from the most traditional winter warmers to spiced sake will be at your fingertips. And if you work up an appetite, you’ll find plenty of festive dishes to devour, too. It really is the most wonderful time of the year!

You can dine inside and savour every sip, grab a cup to go or do a tour of these winter warmers and find your favourite of the bunch – the options are endless. They’ve even done the hard work for us by putting together a savvy map that highlights all participating venues in the piazza and beyond. The map even pinpoints eateries with heated, outdoor terraces for those much-needed Tier 2-approved catchups.

Better yet, if you want your drinks to come to you, look out for the mulled wine roaming cart. The festival is running until Christmas Eve, counting you down to the big day with some festive cheer and lots and lots of booze.
