As a girl who spends the vast majority of her income on flights and flat whites, I’ve never really stood a great chance of clambering onto the capital’s property ladder. And if I wasn’t already aware of that before, I certainly am now. Because the spenniest streets in Britain have just been revealed, and (in a completely unsurprising turn of events) pretty much all of them are here in London.
These rather humbling findings come courtesy of the property pros over at Rightmove. They’ve recently scoured the length and breadth of the country in search of the streets that come with the most eye-watering price-tags. In order to be considered for a spot on the list, a road must have had at least five properties up for sale in January this year (this is to exclude streets with very few residential homes or those that are inactive on the property market).
Rightmove gathered the data and crunched the numbers to curate a handy list of the 20 most expensive streets in the UK. And to absolutely nobody’s surprise, the list was dominated by London. In fact, only one road on the entire list isn’t here in the capital city – and we don’t know whether feel proud or completely and utterly outraged.

Britain’s most expensive street
Topping the charts as the most costly corner of the country is Winnington Road in Hampstead. Snapping up the first place position for the second year on the trot, the north London street boasts an average house price of – drum roll, please… £12,538,095. So, if you’ve managed to bag yourself a pricey pad on Winnington Road, you really are winning(ton) at life.
Winnington Road wasn’t the only Hampstead hotspot to earn itself an expensive spot on the list. Its bougie neighbour, The Bishop’s Avenue (AKA ‘Billionaire’s Row) was named the third most expensive street in the country (with an average house price of £8,930,650). Only one of the top twenty most expensive streets can be found outside of the capital city. East Road is the UK’s 5th most expensive street (with an average house price of £8,795,714), picture perfectly perched in a prestigious private estate in Weybridge, Surrey.
